History
The marathon of Klazienaveen started in 1984 as one of the festivities of the 100th anniversary of Klazienaveen.
Today our Drenthe Marathon is one of the oldest marathons in The Netherlands. It attracts a large variety of athletes from our own region, but also from abroad. For instance athletes from Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, and Ukraine are participating.
Events
Marathon
Start time: 14.00 hr.
Course limit: 5 hours
Minimum age: 20 year
Categories: ladies, gentlemen and gentlemen 35 and older (M35).
Half Marathon
Start time: 14.15 hr.
Course limit: 3,5 hr.
Minimum age: 18 years
Categories: ladies, ladies 35 and older (V35), gentlemen,
gentlemen 35 and older (M35), 40 years (M40), 45 years (M45), 50 years and older (M50).
Regional championship 10 km
Start time: 17.45 hr.
Course limit: 1 hr. and 15 min.
No minimum age.
Categories: ladies, gentlemen
Regional championship 10 km for companies, organizations and groups
Start time: 17.45 hr.
Team is minimum 3 and maximum 5 athletes, men and/or women.
Competitors of this team event are also participating for an individual ranking at the 10 km.
Timing
The Drenthe Marathon uses Champion Chip Timing System. You may bring your own Champion Chip, however you MUST bring it to the Marathon Office to be scanned into our database. In case you dont have your own chip, you can rent one just for the day. After finishing you can hand it over to the organization.
In order to be an Official Finisher you must wear your timing chip. You will not qualify for any awards, etc. without an Official Time. If your timing chip is not returned at the Finish Line you will be charged €28,=.

Furthermore in the categories gents and gents +35, the first five (5) finishers will receive a price of respectively

Half Marathon:

In every category the first four (4) finishers will receive a price of respectively
200,00 100,00 75,00 and 50,00.
The numbers 1, 2 and 3 (gents and ladies) overall will receive a price of respectively:
300,00 150,00 and 100,00.
Regional championship 10 km
The numbers 1, 2 and 3 (gents and ladies) overall will receive a price of respectively:
100,00 50,00 and 25,00.

There is a bonus of 1.000,00 for both gentlemen and ladies for setting a new course record on the marathon.
The bonus for setting a new course record on the half marathon is 500,00; both gentlemen and ladies.
Finally the bonus for a new course record on the 10 KM is 100,00
Personal best
For those athletes who set a personal best time in Klazienaveen, up to 10 participants of the marathon and also 10 of the half marathon, will receive a bonus of 50,00. They are picked randomly of all who achieve this. To check this all athletes are asked to show their personal best time until then, by means of an official race result upon registration.
Award ceremony
Will take place shortly after the first three per event have finished. All other winners will receive there prices afterwards.
All finishers receive an Official Drenthe Marathon T-shirt
The Course
The main part is paved with asphalt and concrete and leads you through the nice village of Klazienaveen. Thousands of people are along the course, which is approx. 10 km long, encouraging the athletes. Participants to the marathon will run this course 4 times, half marathon competitors 2 times and 10 km runners 1 time.
Medical and personal care
Along the course of 10 KM are 4 refreshing areas. This means that you are able to refresh every 2,5 KM with water, energy drinks and cool down with sponges. There are also 4 first-aid points which are all in direct contact to the marathon doctor, who is located in the Start & Finish area.
Own refreshing drinks can be handed over at the Marathon Office up to a half hour before start time. Please mark with start number and A, B, C or D (see course plan).
Dressing rooms are located at the Marathon Office.
Registration
You can use the English entry form on our website: www.drenthemarathon.nl. (see item: inschrijven).
You can pick up your start number and chip on the day of the course as of from 11h30 until half hour before the start at the Marathon Office, Planeet 10 in Klazienaveen.
Payment: cash at the office. Deposit ChampionChip will be restituted after returning Chip to organization.
